The atelier approach

A more responsible way to rehome art.

Peyton Harkness Atelier curates pre-loved paintings and prints for rooms with a point of view. We make room for research, uncertainty, material condition, and visual merit in equal measure.

The collection images on this page are cultural references only. They are not inventory and do not indicate works available through the atelier.

Two-tier cataloguing

The same standard of honesty, two distinct ways to buy.

Attributed Works

Research-supported and carefully qualified.

Attributed Works are catalogued when research supports a likely artist, maker, school, period, or origin. Their Attribution Note explains the evidence considered, the research basis, and the limits of the stated confidence level. At sale, the Certificate of Provenance & Sale provides a documented sale record for that transaction.

Decorative Works

Unresearched by design, selected for visual impact.

Decorative Works are offered for their presence in a room: their palette, scale, subject, material, and character. They are not presented with an attribution claim, provenance paperwork, or an implication that they have been authenticated. Clear photographs and observed condition notes remain part of the listing.

What careful language means

The record is useful because it is not overstated.

01

Research before assertion

Where a work carries evidence worth tracing, the listing sets out the research basis and a confidence level. We use language such as “attributed to” when the evidence supports an informed view, rather than a guarantee.

02

Provenance recorded, not invented

Provenance refers to the documented history available for a work. It may include a source, mark, inscription, prior record, or sale context—and it may be limited. We describe the record that exists without filling gaps with speculation.

03

Condition shown and described

Each listing reports observed wear, restoration, framing, and other visible condition features as clearly as possible. This is condition reporting, not an in-person conservation assessment.

Peyton Harkness Atelier does not guarantee authenticity, authorship, legal title, investment value, or future value. An Attribution Note and Certificate of Provenance & Sale are not authentication, title insurance, or a valuation.

Future consignment

Building a considered route for suitable works.

Consignment intake is not open yet. The future service will be selective and sale-focused; it will not offer appraisals, authentication, or valuation advice.
