Two ways to collect

A clear distinction is part of the curation.

01 · Attributed Works

Research-supported works with a documented basis.

These works are offered where a signature, mark, documented history, period detail, style, or comparable evidence supports an attribution. The listing states the research basis, the limits of the available record, and a measured confidence level.

Included with an Attributed Work

An Attribution Note accompanies the research context. At sale, a Certificate of Provenance & Sale records the attribution basis and documented sale record for that specific transaction.

02 · Decorative Works

Chosen for the room, not an invented backstory.

Decorative Works are intentionally unresearched. They are selected for visual character, scale, palette, and the way they hold a room—not presented as attributed or authenticated art.

A decorative listing still receives clear photographs and condition reporting, so visual merit never depends on overstated claims.

Read the record

Four terms, kept distinct.

We separate observed detail, recorded history, and informed opinion so the available information remains useful without becoming more certain than it is.

Read research & care notes
01 · Attribution
A stated opinion about likely authorship, maker, school, period, or origin, supported by the research basis described in the listing. It is not a guarantee of authorship.
02 · Provenance
The documented history available for a work, such as a source, prior record, inscription, or sale context. It may be limited or incomplete.
03 · Condition reporting
A visual and written account of observed wear, restoration, damage, framing, and other condition features. It is not a substitute for an in-person examination.
04 · Authentication
A separate expert determination. Peyton Harkness Atelier does not represent an Attribution Note or Certificate of Provenance & Sale as authentication.
